Baby K and Family

Thursday, August 20, 2015
Welcome, Baby K! We are so happy you are here! I'll start with a congratulations to our dear friends who have welcomed this sweet little one to their super-awesome family.

I'll also take this chance to introduce Casey (the super mom pictured here) to any future 2016 brides who have come along to check us out. Casey is a dear friend who is also an excellent photographer, and she is my second shooter for most weddings in and around St. Louis. As you can see, she's got a thing for kids, so rascally ring-bearers and flower girls are charmed by her!

Also, for the third time, Casey and I have managed to keep our maternity leave for weddings on time with one another as we add our third sons to our families.  We've been quiet around here for a while this year as we have been preparing for our new son to join us through adoption from Ghana. In the coming weeks, I'll have information regarding when we'll be open again and what you can expect from Purple Lemon Photography in the coming weeks and months!

Baby N before she's born

Monday, September 22, 2014
Sometimes when it rains, people would be tempted to reschedule a photo session. But not Rachel. She's as go-with-the-flow as it gets, and when the contractions just keep coming, we shoot in the rain, never knowing if that sweet baby is going to stay inside another day or not.
Come to find out, she did stay put a little while longer.  And I think that it is because it gave me some more time to give Rachel and Brett a few more name suggestions. And one very special name suggestion from Eli that apparently won out among the rest.

Yep, that's right, my five year old named that sweet baby.  Just a few weeks and you'll get to see that little beauty here.

Sweet Baby M

Thursday, July 31, 2014
This last week, sweet baby M got to celebrate turning one month old by getting photographed with her delightful parents.  This summer baby had the perfect pallet to show off these bright summer days!

She is simply beautiful, getting that from her parents, and has the biggest, lovely eyes taking in the wonderful world around her. I even have some photos where her eyes are so intent on looking out that I can see the reflection of myself photographing her in glassiness of her dark eyes.
Heba is such an adoring new mom, with great love for her new daughter.
Lotfi's eyes just melt when he sees his little girl.

She wasn't too intent on sleeping, but for one brief moment, we got to see how little she is in this great big world. Welcome, baby M!

Who's excited to have a baby brother? Maybe...this little guy!
1.2.3. Jump! It's almost time to meet baby D.

Newborn: Luther

Tuesday, September 20, 2011
A friend (and fellow blogger: Companion to the Wind) of mine just had her second baby boy, Luther.  I got to photograph his newborn session just shy of a week of his birth.  What a delight to see this little family functioning as a new family of four.  They are a very colorful family with a really unique home, so we worked with patches of color already in their home to make some vivid, unique newborn photos- just like them.

I love the selective focus on this image right on Anna's smile as she gazes on her new little one.
So cozy on one of the first really chilly mornings this fall.
Congratulations, Anna & Nate!

A beautiful belly

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting a delightful family that is about to be a little bit bigger.  They are just days away from meeting their second little one!  Their first is a darling little girl who is about the same age as Eli, and just as active.  I loved these maternity pictures so much!  Here are just a few favorites...

Labor & Delivery, Island Fairy Style

Tuesday, April 13, 2010
For weeks I'd been on call, 24/7.  About 10 days past her due date, I got a call from a friend of a friend that I'd never met.  It was time. She was about to have her baby.  And I was going to document the whole experience.
I hung around for a few hours, capturing sweet moments of the first few hours of labor, slowing becoming friends with the soon to be first-time mom and dad.  The hospital staff assumed we'd been life-long friends, but really we'd only met a few hours before.
We were waiting for a little girl to be born. A little girl who was about to receive a name that means "Island Fairy."  (Though I love names, for privacy of the family, her name can be revealed by them alone).
Things were progressing slowly, so I took a break to see my family and run a few errands.  But I returned at nightfall, expecting something wonderful.  It was an honor for me to be a part of such an intimate part of their new family's life.  I am thrilled to be able to provide pictures of the beautiful moments that led to the birth of a little baby.
God led me through that night, filling me with a spirit of prayer and worship of the maker of all things.  I got to see him clearly and dramatically answer my very specific prayers for the delivery of this baby.  Though normally chatty, and one to quickly share my experiences, I felt hushed as God put a humbleness on me.  When needed, I was asked for my opinion and experience, and I was gladly able to offer it.  It was so amazing to just sit back and pray and take photographs.  I could offer encouragement when needed, hold a weary hand, share great news of new life, and be bold in my requests, ensuring great medical care for this new family.  My favorite things all in one glorious evening.
Isn't she beautiful?

As I went to leave the hospital at precisely 3:00 am, thankful for such a great experience (including a laboring woman who always said please and thank you- and even offered to talk to me on the phone on my way home so I didn't fall asleep), I was met by a woman just outside the parking garage.
Though quickly growing weary myself, knowing I had three clients to meet the next day, I stayed and talked with her.  She really needed a listening ear. Though convinced I was barely out of high school and still in college, she instantly felt comfortable sharing her life with me.  You know most anyone you meet a hospital has some sort of story to share.  At the end I got to pray with her and encourage her spirit.  I hope she got some sleep that night.

Congratulations, A & W, on the birth of your little Island Fairy!

A special gift

Monday, October 26, 2009
Saturday there was a trio of special gifts that all led to a fabulous maternity shoot!
Cristina is getting a special gift- her little baby. Her best friend gave her a special gift- a maternity package. And God gave us a lovely day, which is a great gift for me, because I was inspired by some warm-toned pictures and I got sent to Lens-Flare-Heaven!

When I was in middle school and high school, people always commented that I "chopped people's heads off" in their pictures. I still do. But when I get enamored with pregnant bellies, it's more readily accepted. Don't get me wrong, I love faces (and hair, expressions, smiles, etc.), but there is something about showing something else about the human form than the head. In this instance, the amazing pregnant belly. (oh my, that sounds like a circus act.. The Amazing Pregnant Belly!- sorry Cristina- that was just too amusing for me to pass up)

Congratulations to Cristina and Micah on your first child!
