CowCow has a new friend

Tuesday, July 22, 2014
About 6 years ago, I think it was, I photographed CowCow. And now he's back, with a new Rhino friend.  And CowCow's dedicated owner, L, has a new baby sister, I.

I know this sweet look on Mama J's face well. It's full of a tender, yet fierce love for her family.
Can't get much better than this. Love you guys so much! Welcome to the world, Baby I!

This year I aimed to create a few personal projects to keep my eye attuned to the details that drew me into photography in the first place.  When I was a wee lass, I used to love the concept that art and photography could take something ordinary and make it extraordinary.

Over the next few weeks, I aim to fine tune a few of these projects and post them here.

Through the use of color, geometry of setting, and isolation, I've a few photographs to share from a recent outing with my family.  Who knew that milkshakes and french fries could lead to something like this?

[Also, to challenge myself even more, I've been trying to capture things that I enjoy even at the end product with my husband's phone. This is one such example.]

Purple Lemon Photography Photo School

Tuesday, June 24, 2014
Earlier this spring we hosted a daylong workshop- Purple Lemon Photography Photo School.

I had a delightful class, eager to learn and try out their new skills.  Part of our workshop was hands on, testing techniques, and part included a photo shoot with our lovely model, Katie.

I wanted to share a showcase of my class' best work.

Katy & Tim: Wedding Reception

Thursday, June 19, 2014
Katy and Tim celebrated their new marriage with a stunning reception on a lovely, rainy Saturday afternoon earlier this month, at what once was Table Restaurant, and now is an amazing loft venue in the Cherokee District.  Full of charming details and excellent decor, this brunch reception, complete with bluegrass band, The Root Diggers, was full of such depth of love and encouragement, I was just swept away in the richness of it all. The flowers, which were so stunning were by Flowers to the People- they always have such amazing flowers. Coordination by Kate & Co. in Kirkwood.

This Season: A new kind of photography session

Thursday, May 1, 2014
We have created a new kind of photography session. Beyond a simple mini session of your relationships, we have something a little more...you.

A showcase of the season of life you are in this year.

In our family, the seasons are huge. We love nature. And we love food. We eat what is in season each year, and over time our tastes change and our activities change. Whether it's food or life, it's the same idea. I'd love to let you keep a glimpse into your own life during this season.

I'll spend a morning, afternoon, or evening with your family (large or small, young or old) and capture the reality you are in right now.

If that is bedhead, jammies and banana pancakes on a Saturday morning, awesome. Or if it's headed out for ice cream and a walk through the park. If it's sailing the toy boats at Lafayette Square. Or playing out in the backyard. Or cooking dinner together. Changing diapers. Reading books on the couch. Hiking through the woods.

Or maybe, like us, you enjoy a little picnic with laughs
some peanut butter and jelly
and a nice crisp apple or two.

Whatever it is, it's in season right now.

Savor it now before the season is through.
